Job description

My client, A west London Local Authority is seeking a Technical Support Officer (Asbestos) for a 6 month contract

The role s as follows:

Reporting to the Asbestos Manager, the role involves supporting the operational management of asbestos by providing technical and administrative support to the Client asbestos team. This role is also key in generating data to allow effective performance and compliance management. The role includes reviewing survey and removal documentation and providing technical support and advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to routine asbestos enquiries.

Provide technical and business support to Asbestos Manager and Asbestos Contract Managers

  • Update the asbestos register following asbestos remediation work
  • Run reports from the Asbestos Register/compliance software to monitor compliance
  • Raise orders for asbestos surveys and remediation work
  • Vary and complete work orders for asbestos surveys and remediation work in line with the contracts
  • Run reports from systems to monitor contractor performance
  • Review asbestos surveys and identify required actions
  • Review licensed asbestos removal contractor's risk assessments, method statements and collating all relevant documentation
  • Manage and report on log in access to asbestos register
  • Act as first point of contact for issues relating to the asbestos register
  • Assist in training new staff in use of asbestos register
  • Arrange, attend and minute Contract Meetings with asbestos suppliers
  • Act as point of contact for asbestos supply chain (surveyors and contractors) for routine enquiries
  • Approve invoices for asbestos surveys and remediation work
  • Support management of programmes of asbestos surveys or remediation work
  • Provide technical advice to residents with routine queries relating to asbestos
  • Provide technical advice to in house and external teams with routine queries relating to asbestos
  • Manage asbestos email in-box and respond to queries
  • Manage records of in house and contractor asbestos awareness training
  • Managing programmes of and records of contractor audits
  • Liaise with Housing, Resident Liaison and other teams to facilitate asbestos surveys and remediation work
  • Technically support the investigation and resolution of asbestos issues

Essential Qualifications and Skills required:

Previous experience in managing databases and supporting operational teams. Experience working in social housing or similar environment. The technical ability to undertake and satisfactorily complete P405 Managing Asbestos in Buildings training. Science based qualification (A level or equivalent)

A good understanding of health and safety legislation in relation to asbestos

Resilient and robust approach to professional matters

Excellent attention to detail when checking work

Excellent communication skills (including written and presentation skills)

Flexible, outgoing and constructive approach

Be honest and vigilant to make sure that the work and materials meet the required standards

Can establish an appropriate working relationship with the contractor's staff

Computer literate in MS Office products: Excel, Outlook, Power Point.

Experience of web-based databases and systems

Dealing with customers in a social housing environment
