About the Role:
We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Finance - Homes & Communities to join the London Borough of Hillingdon. This is a high-impact interim role, responsible for leading financial operations and strategic financial planning across the Homes & Communities directorate.
The successful candidate will provide financial leadership, challenge, and oversight on budgeting, forecasting, transformation initiatives, and statutory reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Homes & Communities Finance Team, providing robust financial direction and business partnering support to senior stakeholders.
Drive transformation and project delivery, providing timely and strategic financial input to shape and influence outcomes.
Ensure strong financial governance and compliance with Financial Standing Orders and other corporate policies.
Support the delivery of the Council's Medium-Term Financial Forecast (MTFF) through strategic financial planning and modelling.
Deliver high-quality financial advice and reporting to Directors, Heads of Service, and budget managers across the council.
Promote a self-service culture in budget management, supported by a proactive business partnering model.
Lead financial modelling on demand-led budgets and use data insights to support MTFF decisions.
Support statutory accounting, external audit processes, and manage financial impacts of legislative changes.
Foster strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to continuously enhance the financial service delivery.
Required Skills and Experience:
Proven track record in senior finance roles within a local government or public sector setting.
Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading high-performing finance teams.
Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of budget planning, monitoring, and financial governance.
Excellent knowledge of local authority finance, transformation projects, and public sector financial frameworks.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Experience with demand-led budgeting, financial modelling, and MTFF planning is essential.
